ROSIE GARLAND’S GENRE-BENDING SHORT STORY COLLECTION SNAPPED UP BY FLY ON THE WALL PRESS

Manchester political independent publisher Fly on the Wall Press has acquired worldwide exclusive rights to "Your Sons and Daughters are Beyond," a collection of short stories, flash fiction, and hybrid pieces by Rosie Garland. Managing Director Isabelle Kenyon bought world rights direct from the author.

Poet, novelist and performance artist Garland offers "stories of outsiders, those who won’t (or can’t) squeeze into the one-size-fits-all templates the world offers,” refracting “themes as diverse as rebellion against imposed norms, family relationships, queerness, loss and recovery... through the lens of animals, Egyptian mummies, knitting patterns and runaway stars.”

Garland says she writes "through fragmentation & difficulty towards light. Stories of breaking free help me draw strength to resist and persist, even in the darkest times.”

The collection opens with the titular story, in which teenagers across the world begin rapidly transforming, sprouting fur, fangs and strange powers over language, as the protagonist helplessly watches his own children undergo the mysterious change.

Garland added: “As someone who’s spent her life eluding strict definitions, it’ll come as little surprise that I’m drawn to telling stories of outsiders...”

Managing Director Isabelle Kenyon said: “We are thrilled to be publishing this extraordinary collection which delves deep into themes of otherness and rebellion. Rosie Garland’s poetic voice and genre-bending imagination are electrifying.”

Your Sons and Daughters are Beyond will be published in January 2025. Enquiries can be directed to isabelle.kenyon@flyonthewallpress.co.uk
