'Embracing innovation and inspiring others': Managing Director, Isabelle Kenyon, shortlisted for the Bookseller's 'Future Leader of the Year' Award

Journeying from a micro-poetry press, releasing two charity anthologies in 2018, to an award-winning publishing house, crowned as Small Press of the Year (North) at the 2024 British Book Awards, Fly on the Wall Press's 6 year history exemplifies expansion, development, and innovation.

We are thrilled to announce that this growth has been recognised by the Bookseller's prestigious Future Book Awards. Managing Director, Isabelle Kenyon, has been shortlisted in the 'Future Leader of the Year' category.

Praising the work of 'tomorrow's leaders' who are 'not just delivering impressive results, but pushing tirelessly for change', Kenyon's unwavering work in bringing unparalleled political fiction into the hands of more people has placed her at the height of her field. With over 70 titles across novels, short fiction, and poetry, Kenyon has demonstrated exceptional growth and marketing insight. She is constantly seeking to innovate the press, shown by the publication of craftbook The Process of Poetry in December 2023, featured on BBC Radio Four's Front Row.

Alongside the growth of a catalogue of engaging and gripping titles, Kenyon continues to make a 'tangible impact' on the industry. Inspiring the next generation, she conducts monthly outreach programes at schools, colleges, and universities, mentoring and training interns through her structured development programs. She regularly engages with her audience through her social media and Substack newsletter, sharing her journey and creating a community of enthusiastic and inspired people.

Sustainability has always been paramount for Kenyon in the growth of Fly on the Wall Press. She has both consulted with Waterstones Head Office on implementing ethical supplier strategies, and herself pioneered sustainable practice, including eco-friendly packaging and plant-based materials. On numerous titles, portions of book royalties have been directed to charities supporting environmental causes.

A shortlist that celebrates 'some of the most innovative and impactful progress being made int he publishing trade', Kenyon has earned her place amidst this impressive list. The winner will be announced on Monday 25th November.
